Next year begins today.
Yesterday I overheard someone say it was only eight fridays until Christmas. I tried to ignore it, block it out, but all dreaminess was ripped right out of my morning.
Throughout the day, I found myself thinking about all the ideas and plans I’ve had for next year – and realised that some of them need to begin right now.
We’ve decided to change – or perhaps more correctly, augment – the way we offer mentorships in 2014.
In memory of the (rather rewarding and successful) Olvar Wood Fellowship and the Manuscript Development Programs, we’re going to offer one free twelve-month mentorship each year, with a view to helping an emerging writer develop a manuscript to a publishable standard.
If interested, you will need to have the beginnings of a book-length manuscript – fiction, poetry or non-fiction, short stories, novel or novella – and submit the first 30 pages, a synopsis, and a brief bio by 1 December, 2013.
The strongest application we receive will be awarded the prize. (This is a highly subjective process, and will be based, in part, on the writer/work we think we are best equipped to support – so please do not be discouraged if you are unsuccessful this time).
During 2014, the mentorship will be with me, Inga Simpson.
The winner will be informed 15 December and announced 16 December, 2013.
Up to four other year-long mentorships will be offered to ‘runners up’ at a reduced rate of $4000. See our mentorships page for more information.
