Writing Off The Edge: Masterclass Series
July - December 2011

Off The Edge

Would you like to extend your writing skills in a series of masterclasses that do more than cover the basics? Stretch your skills with Writing Off The Edge. Join experienced writers and writing teachers Maria Arena and Nike Bourke for an exciting and challenging masterclass series.

During the masterclass series, you will write and edit six new short stories, and receive feedback on your writing from the workshop leaders.

You will also explore each aspect of writing by participating in in-depth discussion of writing techniques in your own work and in the work of some of the masters of Creative Writing.

Overview

10 places are available in this exciting and stimulating masterclass series designed to help you push your writing to the next level. Each masterclass will include two sessions.

During the first session, we will discuss advanced writing techniques, using your own work as well as a small set of short stories by experienced writers to demonstrate the techniques used. (The stories will be provided on enrolment by PDF, and in hardcopy during the first information session).

During the second session of each masterclass the focus will be on your work. Each month you will be asked to write a new short story, which you will share with the group for discussion, analysis and feedback. This will include feedback from Maria and Nike.

The masterclass series will be supplemented by an online space (on OWL) where you can access the readings, as well as any handouts or other materials used by Maria and Nike, share resources of your own and post your stories for the group to access and discuss.

Where:

Each session will be held at the CWA Hall in Palmwoods. The hall is in Main Street, Palmwoods. Just up from the IGA, opposite the Palmwoods Hotel. There are kitchen facilities available if you'd like to bring your own lunch. If you'd like to purchase lunch, you can purchase lunch at a range of venues in Palmwoods, including Milk and Honey Organic Cafe, or the Palmwoods Hotel.

Tea and coffee will be provided.

When:

The first meeting will be a one hour information sharing and 'meet and greet' session. A small morning tea will be provided.

The masterclass sessions will run from 10:00 am until 2:00pm, including a one hour break for lunch (12:00 to 1:00) on a Saturday, once a month. The dates for each of the masterclasses will be confirmed when the full complement of participants is in place.

Costs

The cost of the masterclass series, including all tuition materials, is $360.00 ($60.00 per session). No discounts are available. Payment can be made by cash, cheque, direct deposit or PayPal.
