2010 Award

The Olvar Wood Fellowship Award is a chance for you to gain recognition for the quality of your writing and support in getting it to the next stage.

Submissions of up to 20,000 words from a book-length work are invited in any genre, including non-fiction. Your entry should not be currently under contract with a publisher or agent, nor should it have been self- or partner published. The award is open to authors of any age or publishing history.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Entries should be your own original work. Please post a hardcopy (printout) of your manuscript, with a completed entry form attached, to:

Please format your manuscript as follows:

  • 12 point, Times New Roman or similar font;
  • Double spaced and single-sided pages;
  • Page numbers;
  • Title of your story, in a header or footer, on every page.
PRIZES

A longlist of ten authors will be selected.

Each of these writers will be offered a place in the online Fiction course on OWL, commencing 23 August, and membership of Friends of Olvar.

Four of the longlisted authors will be selected for the fellowship. Each of the winning entrants receive:

  • a full manuscript appraisal, including guidance on how to further develop your work for publication;
  • a week-long intensive retreat at Olvar Wood Writers Retreat (24-30 July).

The entry fee for the fellowship award is $20.00

FAQs

What if my book is longer than 20,000 words?

If your full manuscript is longer than 20,000 words, you can still enter the award by submitting the first (or the best) 20,000 words. It would be very helpful if you could also include a synopsis of the full story.

Writers selected for a fellowship will be invited to submit the rest of your manuscript for feedback and development.

What happens to my manuscript after the awards have been judged?

If you are offered a place in the Fellowship Program, your manuscript will be returned to you during the retreat, along with detailed feedback on the work.

If you are not offered a place in the Fellowship Program this year, your manuscript will be recycled. However, if you wish to have your manuscript returned to you, please include a stamped, self-addressed envelope of sufficient size and with sufficient postage.

CAN I GET FEEDBACK ON MY SUBMISSION?
If, once the results of the Award have been announced, you have not been long-listed, and you would like to receive some feedback on your submission you can pay a fee of $50.00 for a one-page written report on your submission.
