Anyone who believes you can't change history has never tried to write his memoirs (David Ben-Gurion) This workshop is designed for writers starting out on a memoir or autobiographical project. Within a small group, you’ll learn techniques for turning your life story into a page-turner. You’ll cover plot and structure; research; characterisation (even of yourself), potential markets; as well as issues such as finding a focus and weighing up ethical considerations around truth and memory. Taught by award-winning writer and teacher, Dr Nike Bourke, you’ll work with examples from the genre and practical writing exercises.

What's Included?
The memoir workshop includes all tuition materials (including writing exercises, publication and competition leads, and other resource material), as well as in-class feedback and loads of tips and tricks to help you develop your writing skills. The memoir workshops is ideal for beginners as well as writers who have already begun the process of writing a memoir or autobiography.
There are currently no more places available in our 2010 program of 'Our Place' workshops, but we will be launching our 2011 program later this year. To receive ebulletin updates about upcoming events, you can subscribe to our ebulletin.
Olvar Wood also provide 'Your Place' workshops. If you have a group of writers, and a suitable venue, we can come to you and deliver either one of our signature workshops, or a workshop designed specifically to meet your needs.
Rates
- Our Place Workshops: $90.00 per person
- Your Place Workshops (up to 20 participants): $800.00 plus travel expenses
QWC, ACTWC and NRWC members receive a 10% discount.
